Summer Unplugged, Camp Coonskin

Amazing things happen when kids unplug and reconnect with others! Summer Unplugged, Camp Coonskin provides a fun, safe experience for kids to learn new skills, build self-confidence, and make lasting friendships. Campers days will be filled with swimming, tennis, golf, nature hikes, crafts, science, disc golf and archery.  Six camp sessions will run from June 5 – July 13. Available for grades K* through 5 (*Must be five years of age 1st day of camp). Camp will run 9 am to 4 pm with pre camp starting at 7 am and post camp ending at 6 pm.  The Camp will be held at Coonskin Park.

TOGA Camp is a super-lively, full-day enrichment program focused on quality, age-appropriate activities, safety and fun! Campers will experience new discoveries, develop new skills, and make new friends along the way. Teens stay motivated and are encouraged to make good choices by exercising independent thinking. Each week is packed with an amazing variety of activities including field trips, swimming, themed special events, playing at local parks, creating crafts, exploring through science and nature activities, nutritional and fitness education and more!

Campers will be divided according to age and ability on our five indoor courts.    Participants will learn basic stroke techniques and have the opportunity to practice in a fun environment. Games, relays and team competition will be used to promote camaraderie, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Child care will be provided for Tennis Camp participants in the Summer Day Camp, K-5th, between the hours of 7am-6pm.  A designated counselor will sign your child in at the Tennis Department and will be responsible for transferring all personal belongings.  Your child will participate in the morning day camp activities, including any off-site field trips that have a return time prior to 1pm and afternoon activities following tennis camp.  All rules, procedures, and policies apply to Tennis Camp participants.

Our Summer Day Camp’s emphasis on Achievement, Belonging & Relationships help campers grow as individuals while being a part of something bigger. Besides games, crafts, and theme activities, each week campers will be involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Activities, Summer Reading Program, Swim Lessons and Fitness challenges too.

Campers will be involved in activities each day and will have a special activity each week. These activities may include a field trip, special guest at camp or a special event that week. Dedicated and caring staff help campers feel as though they belong, connect them with others in camp so they build friendships and guide them through activities to foster a sense of achievement. We have so much planned for this summer and can’t wait for you to be a part of it!

This camp is designed for those who want to play sports and games all day! Join us at the Charleston Family YMCA for a fun filled session of sports and team building fun. This camp offers basketball, soccer, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and cheerleading/tumbling. Camps are instructed by successful high school or college athletes and coaches.

2018 Funshine Camp

At Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center

Ages: Children entering Kindergarten

Tuition: 5 Day Option – $160/week, 3 Day Option – $110/week (Multi-Child Discount Available)

Hours of Operation: 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Funshine Camp offers campers the opportunity to make new friends, try new activities, and gain self-confidence. This camp is operated by our amazing Pre-K team! Kindergarten readiness is incorporated into the weekly themes and activities which include arts & crafts, music, games, story time, water play, outdoor fun, and even a few local field trips. Part-time registration is available for Funshine Camp.

Week 1 June 4-8: Safe Fun in the Sun:  Get ready for some fun as we learn about staying healthy and safe while out in the sun.  Water games, sand art, tie-dye t-shirts, special guest speakers, and a picnic are just a few of this week’s activities.  Bring your swimsuit (and towel) and prepare to get wet!!

Week 2 June 11 – 15:  Natural Transformers:  Campers will discover transformers in their everyday lives.  A variety of science experiments will illustrate how water/ice, buds/flower, caterpillars/butterflies, and sand/mud are all natural transformers.

Week 3 June 18 -22:  Almost Heaven West Virginia: Happy Birthday West Virginia!  We will celebrate our state’s birthday by focusing on the spirit, history, and tradition of living in our mountain state.  Campers will create a WV collage, play pin WV on the map, and learn about the state symbols.

Week 4 June 25 – 29:  I’m the Same as You!  Campers will focus on the many ways we are all alike and different and how it makes each one of us unique.  We will create life-sized drawings of ourselves and work on sorting, grouping, and graphing.

Week 5 July 2-6:  Stars & Stripes:  Celebrate America’s birthday with traditional Fourth of July activities while learning about our country.  Enjoy an old time picnic, a watermelon seed spitting contest, relay races, American flag art, and the Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Week 6 July 9-13:  Wild, Wild West: Attention Cowboys and Cowgirls!  Prepare to set up camp, pan for gold, herd cattle, and play corral games.

Week 7 July 16-20: Once Upon a Time:  Explore the world of make believe!  Spend the week acting out fairy tales, folk tales, and nursery rhymes using puppets and face masks.  Create props, decorate crowns, and make stone soup.

Week 8 July 23-27:  Now You See It, Now You Don’t!!  Campers will get to discover magical games and tricks.  Join us for a treasure hunt, create invisible art, and go on a safari to find things that are always there but we don’t usually notice.

Week 9 July 30-Aug 3:  Silly Science:  Enjoy a week of fun science experiments while working with shadows, oobleck, and making ice cream.

Week 10 Aug 6-10: Dinosaur Discovery:  Enter the prehistoric world of dinosaurs as we become junior paleontologists, dig for fossils, create dinosaur eggs, and do the dinosaur stomp.

Week 11 Aug 13-17:  Kindergarten Here We Come! Transitioning to our first day of kindergarten will include looking back and doing some of our favorite summer activities, and looking forward to what kindergarten will be like. We will relax with a picnic and ice cream party.

School is out and summer is here! We will have multiple guest speakers to help us prepare for a safe and fun summer. Topics will include: sun safety, swim safety, stranger danger, and first aid. Special Event: Country Roads Berry Picking – Clendenin, WV

 

WEEK #2 Sea you at the Beach!   (June 11th -15th)

Splishin’ and splashin’ through five days of water relays, sprinklers, slip-n-slides and more! We will be learning about our oceans and the marine life that inhabit it. Special Event: Waves of Fun – Hurricane, WV

 

WEEK #3 Almost Heaven West Virginia   (June 18th -22nd)

Campers will be hiking, fishing, and appreciating West Virginia’s beauty. Campers will learn about the beautiful state that we call home. We will end the week with a birthday party for West Virginia! It’s a great day to be a mountaineer, wherever you may be! Special Event: Culture Center at the Capital Complex- Charleston, WV

 

WEEK #4 Light Bulb Moments       (June 25th -29th)

We hope our campers are ready for a week full of MAD SCIENCE! This week will be jam packed full of STEM based challenges, science experiments, engineering, building, and more…  Special Event: Clay Center- Charleston, WV

WEEK #5 E-I-E-I-O       (July 2nd – 6th)

Campers will learn about farm life and all different kinds of animals. Campers will even get to experience real life animals during our field trip to Heritage Farm. Special Event: Heritage Farms and Museum- Huntington, WV

*The facility will be closed July 4th in observation of Independence Day*

 

WEEK #6 Camper Cuisine      (July 9th – 13th)

Campers will spend the week learning about new foods and getting to prepare their own meals. They will learn how to measure ingredients, read a recipe, and try new foods! This week will be all about learning culinary skills. Special Event: Coonskin Park- Charleston, WV

 

WEEK #7 Say YES to the MESS       (July 16th – 20th)

Let your child explore with us and participate in creative, hands on activities that may make a bit of a mess. Activities may include finger paint, pie face, slimy slip and slide, slime making, tie dye, mud obstacle course and paint throwing. Remember your old clothes! WEEK #8  Let’s Move, Let’s Get Active      (July 23rd -27th )

A week full of games and activities that focus on having fun, developing sportsmanship, and learning to be a team player. This week will be full team challenges, dancing, kickball, relay races, and swimming are just some of the many activities that will get your camper up and moving! WEEK #9 Camper Survivor Week        (July 30th -August 3rd)

Campers will explore the great outdoors around camp and at Coonskin Park. They will learn how to read a map, use a compass, and learn outdoor survival skills. Special Event: Coonskin Park- Charleston, WV

*Families are welcome to join us for our Annual Art Show and Family Luncheon on Friday, August 3rd, 2018 at 11:30am. Join your camper for lunch and see all the amazing art they have worked on all summer!

WEEK #10 A Holiday Everyday   (August 6th -10th)

This week we will be revisiting some of our favorite holidays of the year. The week will be filled with fun activities such as Christmas caroling, an Easter Egg Hunt, Trick or Treating, a Thanksgiving feast, and more! Special Event: Coonskin Park- Charleston, WV

WEEK #11 Bon Voyage Summer 2K18    (August 13th -17th)

Campers will wrap up the season and we will say goodbye to summer camp 2018. We hope to see you all again next year!   Special Event: Coonskin Park- Charleston, WV

 

 

OVERNIGHT CAMP OUT

Beginning: Friday, June, 22nd 2018 at 8:00 p.m.

Ending: Saturday, June 23rd 2018 at 8:00 a.m.

Ages: 6 – 12 years old

Fee: $40/child (Multi-Child Discount Available)

Campers can enjoy an overnight campout at Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center. Campers will be supervised by our caring, trained staff. The night activities will include dinner, bonfire, s’mores, flashlight scavenger hunt, movie, glow in the dark dance party, games, crafts, breakfast, and much more. Don’t forget you’re sleeping gear because we will be camping outside all night long!
