And while they’re taking part in unique experiences and adventures, they’re also building self-esteem, developing interpersonal skills and making lasting friendships and memories. Charleston Family YMCA Summer Camp Themes
Week 1: June 1-5 Backyard Bash Come join your friends as we enjoy the summer sun! We will have picnics at the park; take part in classic outdoor games; such as limbo, corn hole, Tug-of-War, sack races, relay races that you won’t want to miss and much more. To finish out the week, we will have a BBQ cookout on Friday!
Week 2: June 8-12 Full STEAM Ahead Interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics? This week’s theme involves hands on and interactive activities. Learn how to build robots, perform a melon drop, boat competitions and more!
Week 3: June 15-19 Creative Campers Get ready to get messy this week! Explore your imagination and express yourself as you create with hands-on projects. Mold with clay, tie dye T-shirts or socks, make friendship bracelets, paint pet rocks, and more. Games include paint tag, living sculptures, and camp tie dye.
Week 4: June 22-26 Around The World Hello! Bonjour! Hola! Kon’nichiwa! This week we invite you to explore the cultures and sights of our miraculous planet! Get ready for activities and crafts celebrating our planet’s wide cultures! This is one trip you’re not going to want to miss!
Week 5: June 29-July 3 Hip Hip Hooray, Independence Day! Show your American pride and have fun participating in activities that celebrate our country and its traditions. Activities and games include Capture the Flag, watermelon eating contest, pie throwing contest, and patriotic themed crafts.
Week 6: July 6-10 Take Your Place in Outer Space 5-4-3-2-1- Blast off! Let your astronaut explore space with us this week. They will explore space play dough, “moon sand”, and make their own alien goo and space slime! Each day will be filled with fun games, crafts, and activities that help us explore space.
Week 7: July 13-17 Get Your Game On Ready? Set…Go! Campers will use their skills to play hard and to go for the gold with some fun competition. A good mix between minute to win it games, sports and old school board games!
Week 8: July 20-24 Wet N Wild Splash and explore this spectacular week while learning about the wonders of water and the creatures of the sea. Create splash artwork, water games, and bottle waves. Water relays, slip and slide, water balloon toss and more! Be ready to be splashed all week long!
Week 9: July 27-31 Camp Rewind What was your favorite experience of Summer 2020? Relive those moments as we enjoy the fan favorites of the past 8 weeks of activities and games as we say goodbye to summer and hello school! Join us for a family picnic and art show to showcase your child’s projects this summer. We will be concluding with a slideshow from all 10 weeks!!

Week 1: Aloha Summer (June 1—June 5) Greet the summer with island fun, participate in sand art, limbo, tug of war, wacky relays, tropical foods and jam to island music with our Hawaiian t-shirts at the luau. Field Trip: No field trip…family kickoff party
Week 2: Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead (June 8—June 12) Interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and math? Put your engineering hat on…it’s time to build! This week of activities involve hands on interactive projects introducing children to STEAM projects. Figure out how things work by working in teams to investigate, explore and problem solve. Field Trip: WV Tech (Green Group) Clay Center (Blue Group)
Week 3: Happy Birthday West Virginia! (June 15—June 19) Take me home, country roads! Learn about the history of our great state. Help celebrate our West Virginia’s 157th birthday. Field Trip: State Capitol
Week 4: Outdoor Adventures (June 22—June 26) Join us in celebrating all things outdoors! Experience nature crafts, tasty concoctions over a “fire,” lawn games, floatable inventions, ultimate frisbee, and hiking in our beautiful state park. Field Trip: New River Gorge
Week 5: Party in the USA (June 29—July 3) Each day is a party! We will celebrate our nation’s birthday with watermelon contests, water wars, create party hats/confetti and have a dance party with a sock hop/disco shuffle mix. Field Trip: Waves of Fun
Week 6: Mad Science & Grossology (July 6—July 10) Join our laboratory for a crazy experiment filled week! Slippery GAK slime, volcano eruptions, flour wars, dingdong baseball, bubble snakes, discover oobleck and watch colors separate before your eyes. Field Trip: Clay Center
Week 7: Sport Enthusiasts (July 13—July 17) Time to get out on the field and show off what you are made of! Learn about all kinds of sports from volleyball, baseball, basketball, football…there will be something for everyone. Field Trip: Power Park
Week 8: To Infinity & Beyond (July 20—July 24) Get ready for an amazing exploration of space. Children will have a blast learning about the universe and participating in activities such as rocket building, making solar system models and more as we reach for the stars. Field Trip: Starbase

Week 1: Summer Fun & Sun (June 1—June 5) Let the fun begin as we learn how to be safe in the sun, tie-dye t-shirts, and enjoy some water play in the sprinkler.
Week 2: Giggling Gourmets (June 8—June 12) In this tasty camp, children will measure and mix while they follow recipes and create their very own recipe book. Field Trip: Clay Center
Week 3: West Virginia’s Birthday (June 15—June 19) Spend the week celebrating West Virginia and being challenged to list 35 things we know about our home state. Field Trip: State Capitol
Week 4: Up, Up and Away!! (June 22– June 26) Join us as we learn about and create different types of things that move through the air. Field Trip: Air National Guard
Week 5: Flag Patterns (June 29—July 3) Spend the week discovering our American flag, the patterns in it, facts about it, and creating our own American flag. Field Trip: Kid-A-Roos
Week 6: Animals Everywhere (July 6—July 10) Lean about, compare, and compete with stuffed animals campers bring from home. Field Trip: Coonskin State Park
Week 7: All About the Water (July 13—July 17) Let’s find out where we get water, what we do with water, and ifall people have clean water. Field Trip: Hurricane City Splash Park
Week 8: Minute to Win It (July 20—July 24) Get ready for a week of exciting, fast paced games for individuals and teams. Field Trip: Chuck-E-Cheese
Week 9: Experiment, Explore & Explode! (July 27-July 31) Discover science in nature while spinning a tornado, making a tsunami, and erupting a volcano. Field Trip: Nitro City Park
Week 10: One the Move!! (August 3—August 7) Campers will move into the school age classrooms and meet the counselors as they gear up for Kindergarten!
