The YMCA of Kanawha Valley offers a wide variety of childcare services for children of any age.
Beginning this August, both the Charleston Family YMCA and the Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center will offer their After School Program. Students will be transported to the YMCA by Kanawha County School Buses or by our YMCA shuttle, where students will have a snack, study time with assistance from our staff, and enrichment activities such as group games, arts, and crafts. The afterschool programs are for school-aged children between kindergarten and twelve years of age.
The YMCA of Kanawha Valley also offers a Full Day Out Program on days that school is not in session due to county closures, school holidays, or weather emergencies. This program is offered at no additional cost for our students already enrolled in our After School Program.
“They have provided absolute quality care for our kids,” said parent Amy Kirk. “My husband and I could go to work every day and always feel like our kids were safe.”
Early Learning and Pre-K Programs are offered at Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center and consist of several different programs to cater to children at many different stages:
- Nursery (6 weeks – 12 months)
- Waddlers (1-year-old)
- Toddlers (2 years old)
- Little Learners (2 years old – 3 years old)
- Preschool (3 years old – 4 years old)
- Kanawha County School Pre-K (4 years old – 5 years old)
The Staff will work with children in the Early Learning Programs to foster learning and life skills, such as language development, motor skills, social skills, colors, numbers, shapes, and letters for younger children. Children in Toddlers and Little Learners Programs will begin to learn things such as using words to express themselves, following directions, self-help skills, and independently cleaning up after themselves.
Financial Assistance is available to those who may need it. The YMCA accepts subsidy services through Connect and Link Child Care Resource and Referral. A YMCA Scholarship Program is available for those who may not qualify but still need assistance.
