Summer Unplugged, Camp Coonskin

Amazing things happen when kids unplug and reconnect with others! Summer Unplugged, Camp Coonskin provides a fun, safe experience for kids to learn new skills, build self-confidence, and make lasting friendships. Campers days will be filled with swimming, tennis, golf, nature hikes, crafts, science, disc golf and archery.  Nine camp sessions will run from June 5 – August 4. Available for grades K* through 5 (*Must be five years of age 1st day of camp). Camp will run 9am to 4pm with pre camp starting at 7am and post camp ending at 6pm.  The Camp will be held at Coonskin Park.

TOGA Camp is a super-lively, full-day enrichment program focused on quality, age-appropriate activities, safety and fun! Campers will experience new discoveries, develop new skills, and make new friends along the way. Teens stay motivated and are encouraged to make good choices by exercising independent thinking. Each week is packed with an amazing variety of activities including field trips, swimming, themed special events, playing at local parks, creating crafts, exploring through science and nature activities, nutritional and fitness education and more!

Campers will be divided according to age and ability on our five indoor courts.    Participants will learn basic stroke techniques and have the opportunity to practice in a fun environment. Games, relays and team competition will be used to promote camaraderie, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Child care will be provided for Tennis Camp participants in the Summer Day Camp, K-5th, between the hours of 7am-6pm.  A designated counselor will sign your child in at the Tennis Department and will be responsible for transferring all personal belongings.  Your child will participate in the morning day camp activities, including any off-site field trips that have a return time prior to 1pm and afternoon activities following tennis camp.  All rules, procedures, and policies apply to Tennis Camp participants.

Our Summer Day Camp’s emphasis on Achievement, Belonging & Relationships help campers grow as individuals while being a part of something bigger. Besides games, crafts, and theme activities, each week campers will be involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Activities, Summer Reading Program, Swim Lessons and Fitness challenges too.

Campers will be involved in activities each day and will have a special activity each week. These activities may include a field trip, special guest at camp or a special event that week. Dedicated and caring staff help campers feel as though they belong, connect them with others in camp so they build friendships and guide them through activities to foster a sense of achievement. We have so much planned for this summer and can’t wait for you to be a part of it!

The first week of camp is here and we are ready to welcome friends to the start of a summer full of fun and games!

June 5-9: Out of this World

When you think about space, there is a lot to consider: real science and imaginary journeys! This week will be filled with both, come and enjoy. BatMan himself will make an appearance!

June 12-16: Animal Planet

Animals are amazing! Campers will enjoy lots of fun animal activities this week. We will be joining the Cross Lanes YMCA for a chance to visit live animals.

June 19-23: Lights, Camera, Action

This week campers will be working with their creative sides! Don’t be shy everyone will have a great time this week learning about the creative arts.

June 26-30: Incredible Edibles

Let’s get super creative with our favorite foods. We’re sure to have a lip-smacking good time at camp this week! Field trip to Coonskin Park Pool.

July 3-7 *No camp July 4th: Holidaze

Could you imagine celebrating all of your favorite holidays in one week? Get ready for days of fun as we celebrate each holiday you love!  Family picnic to end the week.

July 10-14: Sports of All Sorts

So many sports and so little time! This week we will be playing and learning about a variety of sports so get ready to bring your game face! This is going to be a week full of teamwork and fun!

July 17-21: Under the Big Top

It’s going to be a topsy-turvy circus kind of week at Day Camp! Campers will play and create all kinds of neat carnival games this week. We will end a week with nickel carnival created by the campers open to family and friends. Money raised will go back into camp for supplies.

July 24-28: Go Green

Going green at camp could mean a whole bunch of different things. Campers will explore nature, green science, green thumbs, and green goop! We will take a trip to Gritt’s Midway Greenhouse.

July 31-Aug 4: Science Matters

This week we will be crashing, flying, and dropping as we are learning about science!

Aug 7-11: Around the World

The world is a big place and Day Camp is taking a trip to learn about traditions, activities, and children from all over the world!

This camp is designed for those who want to play sports and games all day! Join us at the Charleston Family YMCA for a fun filled session of sports and team building fun. This camp offers basketball, soccer, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and cheerleading/tumbling. Camps are instructed by successful high school or college athletes and coaches.

Cross Lanes YMCA

Designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Funshine Camp offers first time campers the opportunity to make new friends, try new activities, and gain self-confidence. This camp is operated by our amazing Pre-K team. Kindergarten readiness is incorporated into the weekly themes and activities which include arts & crafts, music, games, story time, water play, outdoor fun, and even a few local field trips. Part-time registration is available for Funshine Camp.

Campers will learn about staying safe during the summer and out in public.  Visitors will enhance our fun-filled days of games and activities.

June 5-9: Creepy Crawlies

Campers will discover the exciting world of bugs as they explore, create, and catch creepy crawlies.

June 12-16: Animal Adventures

This camp is for animal lovers.  Campers will enjoy lots of fun animal activities including live animal visits and animal arts and crafts.

June 19-23: Wild, Wonderful West Virginia

A week filled with activities focused on the spirit, history, and tradition of living in the mountain state.  Campers will create a WV collage, play pin WV on the map, and learn about the state symbols.

June 26-30: Splash Attack

Water is the theme of the week.  Campers will enjoy daily water experiments and activities, such as relay races, wet and dry sand, walking water, water absorption, and mixing colored water.

July 3-7 *No camp July 4th: Happy Birthday, America

Celebrate America’s birthday by learning about the history of our great country.  Campers will participate in traditional games and races, and prepare a patriotic snack.

July 10-14: Differences in You & Me

Campers will spend the week celebrating what makes each of us unique and special.  We will notice the many ways in which we are alike and different while sorting, grouping, and graphing what we discover about each other.

July 17-21: Jobs, Jobs, & More Jobs

Campers will learn about different jobs adults do.  Activities will include dressing up to do different jobs in our dramatic play center, meeting people who do a variety of jobs, and becoming an author to write our own book about jobs.

July 24-28: Summer at Sea

Beach lovers will enjoy this week.  Campers will have the opportunity to explore and learn about the sea through experiences including sand art, cooking, examining, and observing things we find at the sea.

July 31-Aug 4: Young Picassos

Inspire your young artist!  Through hands on experiences campers will create masterpieces through the exploration of famous artists and the art materials they used.  Enjoy a family art show at the end of the week.

Aug 7-11: Ooey Gooey Explorations!

Get ready to make a mess!  Campers will have a wacky week of icky sticky silly activities including making slime, mud pies, and oobleck.

Designed for children ages 6 – 12 years old. Our summer Day Camp provides an exciting and safe environment for children to have an unforgettable summer of fun. Campers participate in various activities each day including field trips, swimming, arts & crafts, science & nature, sports & recreation, guest speakers and more! First things first! This week will be packed full of guest speakers teaching our campers how to keep themselves and others safe this summer. We will learn about sun safety, water safety, first responders, stranger danger, bus safety, and more.

June 5-9: It’s a Bug’s Life

This is going to be a very buggy week! Campers will be exploring the exciting life of a bug. We will learn about different types of bugs and why they are so important.

June 12-16: Wildlife Explorers

Mammals and reptiles and birds, oh my! We will have a stampede of fun as we learn about different creatures from around the world. Campers will even get to experience real life animals during a special presentation and petting zoo.

June 19-23: Country Roads

Get ready for West Virginia’s birthday bash. Campers will learn about the beautiful state that we call home. It’s a great day to be a mountaineer, wherever you may be!

June 26-30: Aqua Adventures

Get ready to make a splash during this wet and wild week of camp! Campers will enjoy exciting water activities such as water relays, slip and slides, and a trip to a water park.

July 3-7 *No camp July 4th: Let’s Celebrate!

Happy Birthday America! Join us as we celebrate what makes our country great. Campers will participate in activities that celebrate the United States culture and land. We will end the week with a traditional birthday party.

July 10-14: Different is Beautiful

Campers will spend the week celebrating our differences and what makes us special. We will learn about families and neighborhoods, foods and languages of the world, physical differences and more.

July 17-21: When I Grow Up…

What do you want to be when you grow up? This week will be full of career exploration activities and guest speakers. Campers will learn about different careers in and around our community.

July 24-28: Oceans of the World

Dive into ocean discovery! Campers will spend the week exploring the wonders of the world’s great oceans and the creatures that live in them.

July 31-Aug 4: Creative Campers

Let your creative side soar this week. Campers will spend the week exploring different art mediums including watercolor, chalk, paper mache, clay, paint, and more. We will end the week with an art show and family picnic. Families are invited to join us for lunch and view the camper’s art that they have created all summer long.

Aug 7-11: Icky, Sticky Summer Closeout

We will close our summer out with all sorts of slimy, gooey fun and experiments. Campers will make slime, create explosions with soda, create homemade playdough, and more.
