OUR HISTORY
Driven by its founding mission, the YMCA of Kanawha Valley has served as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community since 1907. The YMCA empowers everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships and opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, the YMCA’s goal is to improve overall health and wellbeing, ignite youth empowerment and demonstrate the importance of connections in and across the Kanawha Valley region. The YMCA of Kanawha Valley has two branches, the Charleston Family Y and the Cross Lanes YMCA Child Development Center.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
OUR IMPACT
The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. A strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. At the YMCA, we believe that in order to strengthen communities, we must understand the current issues and foresee the future needs of the people and communities we serve. We measure success by our positive impact on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
